Marchant was founded in 1925 by Samuel Sidney Marchant (1897-1975). Our specialties are Imperial Chinese Ming and Qing porcelains, jades, cloisonné, pottery and works of art. Emphasis is placed on rarity, quality, condition and provenance.

Chinese famille verte biscuit porcelain 'piggyback' group modelled as a standing smiling young man wearing long yellow ground floral robes and the official badge of a first-grade civil mandarin beneath three button tied clasps carrying a younger boy on his back who wears an aubergine ground flower head jacket, the base unglazed.

£18,000Chinese porcelain famille noire and gilt hexagonal brushpot, decorated with six panels containing Buddhist and Daoist figures, Liu Hai and his three-legged toad, Damo amongst waves, Lan Cai He with a staff and basket of flowers, Zhongli Quan with a fan, Jiang Ziya in his fishing hat and He Xiangu holding a flower, all on an elaborate seed green ground amongst flowering peonies, the foot similarly decorated, the rim with a scrolling band in underglaze blue, the base glazed white.
Kangxi, 1662-1722.

£30,000Chinese imperial porcelain saucer dish painted on a yellow ground and incised with a green and aubergine five-clawed dragon encircling a flaming pearl amongst stylised clouds and flames, the underside with aubergine grapes and green leaves on a yellow ground extending to the base.
5 1/8 inches, 13 cm diameter.
The base with a six-character mark of Kangxi within a double ring and of the period, 1662-1722.
