Description
Chinese porcelain famille rose, fencai hexagonal openwork jardinière, with each facet painted on a central roundel with different figures including a seated scholar holding a wine cup between a wine jar and a rockwork bonsai, a standing scholar or immortal holding a long staff beside a crane and beneath a bat, a scholar and his attendant holding a wrapped qin, a seated scholar reaching for his wine jar beneath a bat in flight, and a standing figure with bats emerging from his mouth beside wine jars and an altar table with books and a fisherman carrying his rod and fish basket over his shoulder, all on honeycomb or cash openwork grounds, with elaborate borders of stylised flowerheads each with a puce and blue enamel shou character roundel in the corners and between bands of keyfret and scroll and above bracket feet, the flat everted rim with a further diaper band and stylised roundels.
