Description

Chinese famille verte, sancai, biscuit porcelain water-dropper in the form of a fish leaping from a crested wave, the fish predominantly in an aubergine glaze, its tail in yellow, the waves and handle in a green glaze, the flat biscuit base unglazed.

3 ¼ inches, 8.3 cm long.

Kangxi, 1662-1722.

 

Provenance & Additional Information

  • From an important French private collection formed between 1924 and 1941.
  • Purchased from Cie Tonying, Paris, with label, 17th October 1928.
  • A similar example with the handle missing is illustrated by John Ayers in The Chinese Porcelain Collection of Marie Vergottis, 96, p. 101.
