Description

Chinese superbly hollowed agate snuff bottle, carved on one side with two Buddhist lions beneath two birds, the reverse with a monkey holding a stick above a cicada, the rim slightly concave.

Green glass stopper.

2 4/8 inches, 6 cm high without stopper.

1780-1860.

Provenance & Additional Information

● From the V.W.S. Collection (1918-1974), acquired in China in the 1930’s.

● A similar snuff bottle with a dog motif is in the collection of the Asian Civilisations Museum, Gift of Doris and Franklin Chow in honour of Dr. Kenson Kwok, Founding Director of ACM, accession no. 2013-00446.
