Description

Chinese white jade plaque carved in the form of a recumbent horse with its head turned back holding a flowering branch of magnolia in its mouth and resting on a large leaf, with detailed hairwork to the mane and tail, the back flat.

3 5/8 inches, 9.2 cm long.

Qianlong, 1736-1795.

Condition

Three tiny underside nibbles retouched.

  • Formerly in a French private collection.
  • This plaque was possibly inset to an elaborate panel. The stone and carving are particularly fine.
