A Chinese bronze curved brush-rest of five-peak mountain form, cast with relief birds above crested waves, the mountain peaks topped with stylised snow, all on a fitted wood stand.

Provenance & Additional Information

  • Formerly in the collection of a French high-official stationed in Macau and Hong Kong, who received the gold-dragon medal, and was appointed as honorary consul in Canton in 1862. In his letters it states he bought most of his Chinese pieces from a French officer stationed in China at the time.
  • The interior bears an old Chinese label with indistinct calligraphy.
