Description

Chinese bronze censer cast with a generous flaring rim with two relief mask handles each with a hairwork mane, all on three feet with ruyi-heads, the underside with a two-character mark, yun shang, ‘beyond clouds’.

5 inches, 12.6 cm diameter.

Ming dynasty, 15th-17th century.

  • From an old English private collection.
  • The shape of this piece is reminiscent of Chinese porcelain blue and white large vessels made in the Yongle period.
