Blue and white circular food bowl with flared rim and tall foot, painted with a continuous rocky mountain river landscape, a standing scholar with staff on the edge of a rocky promontory looks out at two fishing boats with three mountain peaks in the distance, beneath the moon, all between double lines, the foot with band of stylised leaves.

With Japanese silver and mixed metal openwork cover decorated with chrysanthemum, peony, prunus, iris, daisy, hibiscus and other plants and grasses and signed with a four character signature Chiku ei do zo, “Chiku ei do studio” reputably one of the most famous metalwork ateliers of the Meiji period.
