Marchant was founded in 1925 by Samuel Sidney Marchant (1897-1975). Our specialties are Imperial Chinese Ming and Qing porcelains, jades, cloisonné, pottery and works of art. Emphasis is placed on rarity, quality, condition and provenance.

A Chinese imperial cloisonné bottle vase with rounded body and ribbed cylindrical neck, the body decorated with stylised lotus flower heads amongst leaves and scrolling branches, beneath stylised peony flower heads and further lotus flower heads beneath the rim, all on a turquoise ground, two of the raised ribs with a dark blue ground, the foot with scrolls and jewels.
13.5 cm high.
The gilt base incised with a five-character mark of Qianlong, including the character 'shi' and of the period, 1736-1795.
2. YI2
£4,500Japanese porcelain celadon grey crackle glazed petal-shaped dish, covered overall on the base and interior with a Ge-type celadon grey crackled glaze, all on a short foot rim revealing the biscuit body.
7 ¾ inches, 19.8 cm diameter.

Wood box, signed and with artist’s seal, Shinobu, on the interior of the cover and the yellow cloth.

£16,500Japanese porcelain celadon glazed ewer and cover with ovoid body, tall slender neck, hexagonal fluted spout and strap handle, with upright loop for attachment, covered overall on the base and interior with an even celadon olive glaze, the thin unglazed biscuit foot rim revealing the body, the drop-in cover surmounted by a bird-form finial.
10 inches, 25.4 cm high.
