Description
Chinese porcelain famille noire and gilt hexagonal brushpot, decorated with six panels containing Buddhist and Daoist figures, Liu Hai and his three-legged toad, Damo amongst waves, Lan Cai He with a staff and basket of flowers, Zhongli Quan with a fan, Jiang Ziya in his fishing hat and He Xiangu holding a flower, all on an elaborate seed green ground amongst flowering peonies, the foot similarly decorated, the rim with a scrolling band in underglaze blue, the base glazed white.
Kangxi, 1662-1722.

£9,500Chinese Blanc de Chine seated figure of Guanyin on a reed mat with long flowing robes, resting her right hand on her raised right knee and holding a scroll in her left hand, the tip of her right foot exposed, wearing a lingzhi and ruyi-head jewelled necklace and a ruyi-head tiara, her hair neatly tied at the top with a hairpin, covered overall in an even, luminous pale cream glaze.

£35,000Chinese ceramic Ding ware ingot-form pillow, zhen, moulded on the exterior, the gently sloping concave top incised and glazed in white with flowers forming a cash motif on a clear-glazed tan ground, each larger side with a relief recumbent stag between branches of buds, one side within a jewelled border, the other within a cross-hatched border, the smaller sides with stylised flowers, buds and leaves, the unglazed flat biscuit base pierced with an air hole revealing the high-fired body.
