Description
Chinese porcelain famille noire and gilt hexagonal brushpot, decorated with six panels containing Buddhist and Daoist figures, Liu Hai and his three-legged toad, Damo amongst waves, Lan Cai He with a staff and basket of flowers, Zhongli Quan with a fan, Jiang Ziya in his fishing hat and He Xiangu holding a flower, all on an elaborate seed green ground amongst flowering peonies, the foot similarly decorated, the rim with a scrolling band in underglaze blue, the base glazed white.
Kangxi, 1662-1722.
