Description

A very rare pair of Chinese porcelain famille verte bottle vases, decorated over the entire surface with five blue chilong dragons, four on the body and one in high relief on a seed-green ground, with prunus flower heads in iron red, yellow, aubergine and green, the foot with a scroll band.

9 1/8 inches, 23.2 cm high.

Kangxi, 1662-1722.

Provenance & Additional Information

  • From the collection of David Charles Samuel Montagu (1928-1998)and M. Christiane Francoise ‘Ninette’ Montagu (1927-2021), 4th Baron Swaythling and Lady Swaythling. The collection was mostly inherited from The Honourable Nellie Ionides (née Samuel), his grandmother. Many retain some of the original red inventory marks from Buxted Park.

Condition

One with restorations to the high relief dragon, one with neck crack restored and damage to the high relief dragon.
