Description

A Chinese shadow agate snuff bottle carved in low relief, with a dark brown falcon, its head turned back on a superbly hollowed naturally mottled ground, all on a short raised foot rim, with natural carved qilong dragon stopper, the stopper damaged.

2 ¾ inches, 7 cm total height with stopper.

18th– early 19th century, 1760-1820.

  • From the V.W.S France collection (1918-1974), acquired by his father in China in the 1930s.
  • Sold by Christie’s Paris in the auction of From Beijing to Versailles, the V.W.S. collection 14th December 2022, lot 635, p. 143.

Excellent condition, miniscule nick and foot rim.
