Description

Japanese porcelain pale celadon glazed beaker shaped flower vase of slender form, the flared rim modelled as five petals, covered overall on the base and interior with an even pale celadon glaze, the biscuit foot rim unglazed.

8 7/8 inches, 22.5 cm high.

Kawase Shinobu, 1991.

Wood box, described as ‘celadon flower vase’, signed and with artist’s seal, Shinobu, on the interior of the cover and the orange cloth.

Provenance & Additional Information

  • Purchased at the Mainichi Communication auction, 2020.
  • An illustration of the rims of two similar vases were included in the exhibition at ASO Arts, Tokyo, titled Northern Lights, Aurora, 1991, pp. 10/1 and on a double page, pp. 8/9.
  • The form of these flower vases appears to be invented and experimented with by Kawase in the 1980’s.
