Chinese pale celadon and mottled jade box, deeply carved as a finger citron with high relief branches, leaves and smaller finger citron, attached with an integral loose ring between openwork gnarled branches.

4 ¾ inches, 12cm long.

Early Qianlong, circa 1750.

  • This box is a tour de force of the jade carver’s school. Although the jade is mottled, they have brilliantly managed to work the material to form this finger citron box. The genius of the single ring attaching both parts is something that has always marvelled the handler.
